Tourism codes of Ethics

Formal call to approve codes of Ethics was approved in statement of WTO meeting in Istanbul. After two years a special committee for global codes of Ethics established and a draft document was provided by Secretary General in consultation with legal experts and the Business Council of WTO. In 1999 UN Meeting of Sustainable development in New York approved codes and asked for additional information about NGO's, Labor organizations and private sector from WTO. Then written ideas of 70 member countries of UNWTO have been sent to this organization. Current tourism codes of Ethics was extracted from these ideas and was approved in WTO general assembly meeting in Santiago, Chile, in October 1999. Toward introduce these codes and encourage WTO to act more effective, Economic and Social Council of UN proposed it as a statement draft in UN general assembly meeting and recorded it with number A/RES/56/212. tourism codes of Ethics have been approved in 10 articles. Nine articles describe outlines for destinations, governments, tour operators, planners, travel agencies, employees and travelers. Tenth articles emphasized on executive points. These articles are as follows:

Article 1: Mutual understanding and respect among people and communities
Article 2 :Tourism as a tool for individual and social prosperity
Article 3: Tourism as a contributory factor to the sustainable development
Article 4: Position of the Cultural Heritages in tourism and important factors to improve it
Article 5: Tourism as a beneficial activity for host countries and local communities.
Article 6: Commitments of interest groups in the development of tourism
Article 7: Tourists' rights
Article 8: Tourists' freedom for movement
Article 9: Rights of employees and entrepreneurs in tourism industry
Article 10: Implementation of the global codes of ethics for tourism

Due to these ten codes, eight principles for responsible tourist were approved in the general assembly of the world tourism organization in 2005.

 

 

Travel Etiquettes:
 
 

1. Color : It's a completely false belief that wearing  must be dark in Iran. There is no limitation in this respect.
2. Head : Hair should be covered. Scarf is the most common covering for head and is called "Roosari" in Farsi.
3. Body : Should be covered with loose clothes like man shirt, coat or manteau. Arms should not be bare.
4. Legs & feet : Legs should be covered down to ankles.

Tap water is safe to drink in most of the country (and especially the cities (.Bottled mineral water is widely available. Also, on many streets and sites, public water fridges are installed to provide drinking water. Iranian foods are delicious and attracting for most tourists. Iranian don't eat some animals meat. Drinking alcohol is forbidden in Iran.
